Unlocking Potential: How Remote Work Empowers Our Team

When we started InfinitLab, going fully remote wasn't the trendy thing it became during the pandemic. It was just... how we wanted to work. And after a few years of doing it, I can say it's one of the best decisions we made.

Why we went remote from day one

Honestly? I didn't want to commute. And I didn't want to force anyone else to either. Sitting in traffic for an hour just to sit in a different chair didn't make sense to me.

But it turned out to be about more than convenience. Being remote meant we could work with people we'd never have access to otherwise. Some of the best people I've worked with live nowhere near a major tech hub.

What actually works about it

The biggest thing is focus time. Deep work is hard in an open office. Someone always wants to chat, there's always a meeting you get pulled into. At home, I can actually think.

I also like that everyone gets to structure their day around when they do their best work. Some people are morning people. Some aren't. As long as the work gets done and we can coordinate when we need to, I don't really care when someone's at their desk.

The tricky parts

It's not perfect. You have to be more intentional about communication. Things that would happen naturally in an office — quick hallway chats, overhearing useful context — you have to create deliberately.

We've gotten better at it over time. More async updates, clearer documentation, regular video calls that aren't all about status updates. Sometimes you just need to talk through something with another human.

For us, remote work just... works. It lets us build a team of people who are great at what they do and happy doing it. That's pretty much all I wanted.
